Stellite 12
Stellite® 12 (UNS R30012) sits between Stellite 6 and the highest-carbon grades — tungsten 7.5-9.5% and carbon 1.4-2.0%, both above 6. More carbide means more abrasion resistance and higher hardness, at the cost of some toughness.
Key Properties
- Carbon 1.4-2.0% and tungsten 7.5-9.5%, both higher than Stellite 6 — a greater carbide volume.
- Harder and more abrasion-resistant than Stellite 6, and correspondingly less tolerant of impact.
- Chromium 27-32% on a cobalt balance, as across the family.
- Chosen where wear is abrasive rather than impact-driven.
Applications
- Cutting and forming tools
- Wear plates and abrasion surfaces
- Extrusion and forming dies
- Hardfacing where abrasion dominates
